After many days of speculation, Google has finally put all the rumors to rest by officially launching the new Nexus 7 tablet, created in collaboration with Asus, during the opening day keynote at Google I/O 2012. It sports a 7-inch 1280×800 HD display (216 ppi) back-lit IPS display covered in “Scratch-resistant Corning glass”. The tablet has a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and a 12-core graphics processor. Most excitingly, it will be run by Google’s latest OS system, the 4.1 Jelly Bean, which means a faster cleaner touch operation, intuitive notifications, new widgets, and home screen customization. Other important specs include a Micro-USB port, 1GB of RAM, a 1.2-megapixel front camera, a gyroscope, GPS, accelerometer, microphone, and 802.11a/b/g/n-compatible Wi-Fi. The Nexus 7 promises us over 8 hours of HD video playback, and 10 hours of web-browsing or e-reading. The 7-inch tablet is being directly pitted against Kindle Fire and BlackBerry Playbook.
