Ice Moon: Moon-Inspired Ice-Cream Cake For Häagen-Dazs
Ok, so we are just about entering the holiday season and ice cream may be the last things on our minds. However, you have to admit this new creation made from Häagen-Dazs will get your taste buds working. Called ‘Ice Moon’, not only do they look delicious, they are actually inspired by the moon! That’s right, who wouldn’t love some lunar inspired, crater filled ice cream sandwiches. Created by London-based designers Doshi Levien for Häagen-Dazs for the Christmas 2012 season, the spherical moon-like ice-cream cake just looks yummy. The Ice Moon collection comes with two different “moons”. The white moon consists of a pistachio biscuit base, layers of macadamia nut ice cream and meringue, and a coating of raspberry ice cream. The orange moon consists of a crunchy chocolate bottom, layers of nutty ice cream and salted caramel, and a coating of vanilla ice cream.
Ice Moon for Häagen-Dazs by Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien has been inspired by Georges Méliès’ 1902 silent film Le Voyage dans la Lune, Armenian surrealist Léon Tutundjian’s relief work of 1929, a childhood Bollywood song and the near-spherical shapes of early ice cream bombes. They explained, “The moon idea came from many different places and has elements of fantasy, adventure and imagination.”
