Pepsi turns to Michael Jackson to head the new campaign posthumously
Nothing is bigger than Michael Jackson. We guess even the people over at Pepsi are figuring this out. That is why they are turning to him to be the face of their new ad campaign, as opposed to other more, well alive, stars! As part of a new partnership between Pepsi and Michael Jackson’s estate, one billion cans of Pepsi will feature a special edition “Michael Jackson Bad 25″ design, which will include his iconic silhouette. PepsiCo Inc. just unveiled a “Live for Now” marketing campaign. It comes on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the songwriter’s Bad album. For the occasion, Michael Jackson’s estate and Pepsi have come together to promote the re-release of his legendary LP. The collaboration includes live events, music, and “opportunities for fans to access special edition merchandise.” Fans also stand to win downloadable remixes of his songs.
The Pepsi and Michael Jackson collaboration is bound to come under a lot of criticism. People can go both ways – fans can love it or find it totally macabre and creepy. Especially since many trace the beginning of his painkiller addiction to the time, his hair caught on fire during a Pepsi commercial shoot. Either way, it will definitely get the buzz that Pepsi is probably looking for from this campaign!
