What’s wrong with the Welsh Government is the first question that popped in my mind on learning of Welsh government-backed scheme that gave careers advice on becoming strippers and lap dancers. Who would even expect something like this to feature on the Business Wales website aimed specifically at youth entrepreneurs. Not only do they feature it as a ‘promising career’ for women, they are ‘kind’ enough to offer career advice on how to earn up to £48,000 as a lap dancer, stripper or escort. Now isn’t that sweet? How else would women learn to make an average of £232 an evening. Escort agencies are obviously taking offense to this as they offer companionship and not promote prostitution.
Stripping is degrading for women and the Welsh Government should not the promoting the view that sexually exploitative work is an acceptable career. While the adult entertainment industry is meant for adults and here to stay the world, unlike the Welsh Government isn’t ready to accept this as an aspirational career option.
